July 22 is a Houston holiday – Trae Day – full of family fun and giving back to the community.
Popular Houston rapper Trae tha Truth is known for doing outstanding work for the Houston community. It was no surprise when on July 22, 2008, former Houston Mayor Bill White awarded Trae with “Trae Day,” a well-deserved recognition of the rapper’s efforts to improve conditions of underprivileged Houstonians. Continuing his work and further proving how deserving of the award he is, Trae tha Truth commemorates “Trae Day” every year with a different event filled with fun for the whole family.
Trae Day 2016 will be held at Discovery Green and is being advertised as the “Biggest Day Party Ever.” This Friday, from 3pm-8pm, Trae is inviting everyone to come out for a free concert with free facepainting and games for the children. More importantly, there will be free school supplies, free backpacks, free immunization shots, and free HIV testing.
Among those set to make appearances at the event are Nick Cannon, Kent Jones, OT Genesis, Ace Hood, Raheem Devaughn, and many more prominent names.
In the midst of a fearful, trying time for many people in America and a less-than-relaxing summer break for many children affected by current events, Trae Day will be a welcome diversion and serve the wonderful purpose of preparing our children for the upcoming school year, and providing the adults in our community the with preventive care they may not otherwise be able to afford.
As Trae said on his Instagram post about the event, it will be a day where Houstonians can “come together peacefully to have each other’s backs and be rewarded at the same time.”
For the adults, there will be an after party at Club Life and an after after party at Club Onyx. Check out Trae tha Truth’s Instagram (@traeabn) and search the hashtag #TraeDay2016 for more information.
Bring the family out for some free fun….and maybe to catch a Pokémon or two.
See you there!
