The most interesting thing in our present is the lack of appreciation for what others don’t get the chance to even take for granted. As a woman, it never has crossed my mind that all the way across the world there is a chick the same age as me who probably can’t make it to work or school today just because she doesn’t have pads for her periods. Wild stuff, right? But thank God there are groups who take these issues into consideration and create initiatives that change the world. Meet Lunapads’ Pads4Girls, an awesome company and program that provides cloth pads and underwear for women and girls in developing countries so that they can go to work and school. For women in developing countries, a menstrual cycle means losing out on money and education all because they don’t have pads. Lunapads’ Pads4Girls helps with not only providing reusable pads that do not effect the environment like the regular throw away pads, but it aids in avoiding discomfort and ridicule from those around the women who don’t understand their struggle.
Lunapads’ Pads4Girls, was established in 2000 for the recognition of women who can not provide themselves with pads that are too expensive in third world countries. After Lunapads contacted Menstrual Health Management (MHM) and learned about the issues of developing countries and women, Isabella Wright, Zimbabwean/Canadian activist, explained that women had little to no help with regulating their menses. Lunapads’ Pads4Girls simply promotes helping women continue their futures and not letting a monthly cycle take away from their success. Pads4Girls works with distribution companies to donate pads to women, and they now have the One4Her program where they have partnered with AFRIpads to continue their great efforts. For every Lunapads purchases made by you, an Uganda-made AFRIpad is donated to a woman/girl to help support her education.
The efforts of this company are not to go unrecognized. They have created a huge impact over the 16 years they have been around. If you find this to be dope like I did, you can personally donate here at Lunapads.com or just simply support the website by buying the products. I can NOT waaaaiiiitttt to see what more Lunapads has in store for the future!
