You’re not the only liar in the room

The human brain is responsible for a multiplicity of functions,

many occurring simultaneously:

Breathing, heartbeat, blood flow

Telling you you’re alright when you’re not

You’re not the only liar in the room

You cannot hide from me.

Your eyes are glazed over, sullen

Mine look off into the distance for minutes at a time

We look at each other and recognize what we see

I know you’re not alright

You’re not the only liar in the room

This is all very familiar.

Two people plagued by frustration and indecision

Afflicted by trouble, cursed by the clouds

And an overall sadness that makes everything cold to the touch

We’re not okay.

And that’s okay.

We’re not the only liars in the room.

shame, guilt, frustration
