Vita Living is a wonderful organization that recognizes the power in creativity approaches in assisted living. The Houston non-profit provides services, support, case management and creative programs for children and adults living with developmental disabilities.
The Vita-Living, Inc. story began from a desire to provide better independent living options for those who need a little extra help.
The result of needing a facility for their own son displaying hyperactivity, and non-verbalization, Renée and Stan Wallace launched Vita Living in a six-person home in 1985 focusing on the behavioral, physical and emotional needs of the tenants with individualized treatments. Today, serving those with the most typical diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy and Autism, the 501(c)(3) organization helps those needing companion care, respite care, transportation and residential support, day-habilitation, nursing, dental and behavioral services, speech, occupational and physical therapies, minor home modifications such as roof repairs, interior painting and appliance maintenance and more throughout 17 group housing facility locations throughout the state.
Currently, Vita-Living, Inc. provides support services to over 500 clients through three major Medicaid programs in Harris, Ft. Bend, Brazoria, Montgomery, Galveston, Austin, and Waller counties. Those programs are ICF/IDD (Intermediate Care Facilities for persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities), HCS (Home and Community-Based Services), and CLASS (Community Living Assistance and Support Services.
Some of their featured programs include Intermediate Care Facilities Serving Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (ICF/IDD), Home & Community-Based Services (HCS), Community Living Assistance and Support Services (CLASS).
We often discuss creating your own art at The Hive Society, but it’s imperative to commend those who see a need in the community and create their own businesses and in this case, create a much needed service for the public. Vita Living is vital to thousands of Texans and we salute their charity!
