There’s Black Friday. Small Business Saturday. Cyber Monday. Now do a little good this holiday season and participate in #GivingTuesday.

The Hive Society has built its brand around philanthropy. It’s at the core of everything we do. It’s who we are. Our vision is to inspire everyday people to be philanthropic in all that they do. You don’t have to be a trust fund billionaire to be a philanthropist. You can be the 6-year old who loves sorting rice at the Houston Food Bank or the 66-year old woman who takes meals to the homeless shelters. Philanthropy is simply the desire to promote the welfare of others.

This Tuesday, we invite you to join us in #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.

What’s #GivingTuesday?

Created by 92nd Street Y—a cultural center in New York City that, since 1874, has been bringing people together around the values of service and giving back—#GivingTuesday connects diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving. A team of influencers and founding partners joined forces—collaborating across sectors, offering expertise and working tirelessly—to launch #GivingTuesday and have continued to shape, grow and strengthen the movement. #GivingTuesday harnesses the undeniable power of social media platforms and encourages visibility of people’s generosity to bring about tangible changes in their communities. Whether you donate your time, resources, or talents, your unique brand of giving contributes to the betterment of the world, your world. #GivingTuesday brings together nonprofits, businesses, corporations, and families to magnify small acts of kindness.

How you choose to give is totally up to you, but we’ve made a short list of some of our local nonprofit friends and family you can consider.

The Hive Society, Inc.

The City of Houston and Mayor Annise Parker proclaim October 17, 2015 as The Hive Society, Inc. Day

Okay, okay. This isn’t self-serving. I know you may think of us as the bees who run that blog, but we are, in fact, a public nonprofit. Canvas and Cupcakes? Houston Cares? Axiom? Our partnership with #Hashtaglunchbag? Adopting Families for the Holidays? The things we do cost money and we wouldn’t be able to do them without your support!

Want to help us fulfill our mission? Donate via PayPal. You can choose any amount to donate and your #GivingTuesday donations will be used specifically for our 2015 Adopt-a-Family project.

Houston Food Bank

Houston Food Bank was designated Feeding America’s 2015 Food Bank of the Year. The work they do to feed Houston’s hungry families should be celebrated and we are honored that they are our #HoustonCares partner. Knowing that 1 in 5 children in Southeast Texas don’t have consistent access to nutritious foods should inspire you to do something. Volunteer your time or donate to the cause. Every $1 donated makes 3 meals! For more information, visit

Special Olympics Texas

Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Just a few weeks ago, Hope went “over the edge” dressed as Spider-Woman when she rappelled down a hotel building to raise money and awareness for the cause!

The Houston S.W.A.T Team helped with the ropes, and Harris County’s Ron Hickman also went “over the edge.”
