Turn’s out, despite the young artist’s name, Chance does a lot more than just rap. Mr. Happy is a 24 minute piece of wonderful. A short film brought to you by Vice, staring Chance The Rapper, better known for his hit collection of music, Acid Rap, shows us a very different side of himself. Directed by Collin Tilley, the film takes on a very melancholic road. In the film, Chance plays Victor, an unassuming suicidal stock boy. And after many failed attempts on his life, Victor (Chance) seeks the help of an online hit man to do the job for him. Sadistically named Mr. Happy, the hit man is contracted out to take Victor’s life on the agreed upon date. A problem arises when Chance’s character Victor begins to fall in love and does not know how to cancel his request. I promise, you have no idea how this crazy journey will end. I must say the direction and cinematography were impeccable. Each detail came together perfectly. The soundtrack to the film was very subtle and well placed. The film seems to have a despairing undertone. One might assume that the theme is reminiscent to that of a disappointing love song. Though beautiful and effortless, everything must come to an end.
