Last month, we featured Untapped Festival as one of the things to do in Houston and it was unfortunately had to be rescheduled due to triflin’ weather.

Sigh….#HoustonProblems. According to the weather channel , it might be raining once again (can we ever catch a break?!) but Untapped’s Facebook page says the show will go on no matter what and they will be taking precautions to ensure this.

So what’s the big deal about this Houston festival? 200 + beers from 65+ breweries, food vendors and a lineup of your favorite indie bands, all in one cool little park in downtown Houston. Untapped Festival will be returning to Discovery Green (1500 McKinney St.) with a plethora of craft beers to wet your whistle while you rock out to some of the best in indie music. Music lineup consists of The Toadies, Robert Ellis, The Bright Light Social HourThe SuffersBLSHS, Los Skarnales and Featherface. I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing most of these artists but I can say with the utmost confidence that local superstars The Suffers and BLSHS will be excellent shows to watch. I’ve also heard great things about Robert Ellis’ guitar skills so make sure you get a good spot to see the country singer!

Official Untapped 2013 Tasting Cup

Untapped is equally about the beers as well as the music. Although they boast having over 200 types of beers to sample, the festival organizers value quality over quantity so only craft and import breweries are allow. Not only will several of your local brewery favs like Saint Arnold, Karbach and 8th Wonder be there serving up the usual goods, but there is an overwhelming list of different ales, stouts, porters, IPAs, lagers, ciders, etc etc from breweries you may be unfamiliar with. Unusual standouts are the must tries to me! If I attend this Saturday, I’m trying these beers for sure: Rogue Ale’s & Spirits Voodoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Ale, Indra Kunindra Curry Export Stout, Brooklyn Brewery Sorachi Ace, Revolver Brewing’s Blood & Honey (blood oranges, not real blood ok), Texian Brewing Company’s Summer Sandia (Watermelon Wheat) Fruit Beer and Sixpoint Brewery’s Sweet Action Cream Ale.

Other fun details: There will be a designated lawn chair area if you wanna bring one and yes, dogs are allowed since it’s at Discovery Green! Of course Untapped can’t have you drinking brews all day without some good eats so how perfect is it that The Hay Merchant will be on the premises serving up their delicious bar bites like pretzels, beef jerkey, cheddar dogs, smoked beef sandwiches and soba noodle salads. Wanna buy souvenirs for friends missing out on the fun? Tumbleweed TexStyles and FYHA will be selling their goods at the festival. Additional details and info here.
